Aidan
Surf.
Fuck.
Get high.
Sounds like the perfect day to Aidan Callahan. As second-born son to Chicago’s most influential business owner, Aidan’s life has always been about responsibility. Tradition. Toeing the goddamn line. Just do as you’re told, Aidan. Don’t make waves.
Well, screw that. Riding waves is way more fun than making them.
Hawaii is paradise on earth. Smoking hot women. Tiny bikinis. As far as Aidan’s concerned, wild horses couldn’t drag him kicking and screaming back to the windy city. Or at least that’s what he thought.
When his brother crashes his Mercedes, killing himself on impact, Aidan finds himself next in line to the Callahan fortune and all the ties that come with it. And this time there’s no getting out of it.

Essie
A warm bed.
A steady job.
A brother who loves her.
For Essie Gray, life’s been one hard kick in the teeth after another. With her parents both dead, her brother is her only living relative. That is until Vaughn’s truck is written off, his life snatched away by the careless actions of a rich playboy in a flashy sports car.
Now, the only thing that will bring Essie peace is revenge. She must take what was taken from her. Only when the name Callahan has been wiped from the face of the earth forever will she be able to start living again.
Of course, the new head of the Callahan Corporation isn’t what she expected. Aidan’s sexy and sad, and just as damaged as she is. Will she be able to distance herself enough to accomplish her goal?
After all, ruining a man’s really hard when you find yourself falling for him…
My Thoughts:
This was a pretty quick read as the author set a good pace and wrote with such an easy style, the pages just flew by and before I knew it, I was done. It was captivating from the very first page and I found myself salivating to discover what happened next. My only complaint is that it is a two-part book and I have to wait for the next part to find out how it all shakes out. But I think it will be well worth the wait because the characters are engaging, the story is intriguing, and the author shows a true gift for storytelling.
About those characters...
Essie: sometimes I felt so bad for her and sometimes she did stuff that had me cringing and wanting to scream at her, "Don't you hurt Aiden, you bitch. He's suffering, too." Like how she sets out to ruin him for something that wasn't his fault, not even taking into consideration that he suffered a great loss, too - perhaps a greater loss than her own. She only lost one relative in the crash - he lost three. So what gives her the right to decide that he should b punished for something his brother did? What if the tables were turned and her brother was the one at fault? Would Aiden seek revenge on her? Somehow, I don't think so. But there are some redeeming qualities to her and I'm really hoping she comes to her senses before she does something she'll come to regret.
Aiden: I think I feel more sympathy for him because he had to give up so much to return to a life he wanted no part of, to continue in that life out of an obligation to others. So not only did he lose his family in the crash, he lost himself. He no longer gets to live life the way he wants to - in fact, his life isn't really his own anymore and that's just sad. Plus, there's the burden of guilt for the last words he said to his brother - no one wants to live with that and somehow, I don't think he is. I think he's just making do, going through the motions. But he isn't really living any longer. Not until Essie comes along. She ignites a spark in him and makes him interested in life again, even if he is suspicious about her motives for approaching him. I think he genuinely likes her and I fear that, if Essie has her way, he is going to be laid so low, it'll be more devastating to him than the loss of his family. I hope I'm wrong. I hope Essie comes to her senses before she does irreparable harm to him. I kind of hope he doesn't give his heart to her - so she can't crush it like she wants to.
All in all, this was a good read that I enjoyed a lot, and I can't wait to read the second part!
