He’s utterly alone…
Tortured and existing in a dark spiral of despair, bestselling British author, Gavin Cooke, has come to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to escape the seedy lifestyle he had been living in London and in a desperate attempt to regain his writing focus. He’s twisted, bitter and angry at the world. He’s a loner… needing not a single thing other than his Scotch and a laptop upon which he can bang out his next erotic, dark thriller.
She’s running in place and getting nowhere…
Savannah Shepherd’s life is falling apart. Her dream of being a wildlife photographer seems a distant memory and she’s barely able to make ends meet. Driving herself forward with no clear goals apparent, she’s about ready to pack up her bags and head home with her tail between her legs.
Two unlikely lovers…
He’s raw, forceful and a dirty talker. She’s a flowers and romance type of girl. Yet within each other, they find a mutual craving that can only be satisfied by giving in to their desires for one another.
Lust turns into something more… something they were not looking for but tentatively accept. Will it be enough to push them past the obstacles of Gavin’s bitter past?
*SUGAR ON THE EDGE can be read as a stand-alone*

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book. It was well developed and well crafted with characters I wanted to get to know better and therefore really rooted for. Being a parent myself, I really felt for Gavin and his personal tragedy, and I just couldn't imagine what he went through with his loss. I probably wouldn't have dealt with it in quite the same way, but we all handle grief differently. That doesn't detract from how I feel about him as a character. He is raw, sexy and as real as it gets. And he doesn't make promises he can't or won't keep. He's straight forward and honest - sometimes brutally so. Savannah is his exact opposite: all that is sweet and nurturing. Usually, this puts her in situations where she's used by people but she's just too nice to be mean to people - until she meets Gavin. He brings out a side of her she didn't know existed and she soon learns to go for what she wants and stand up against what she doesn't. Their relationship starts out slow, but when it ignites - holy heck does it ignite! It quickly becomes a raging inferno, threatening to burn down everything within its path. Of course it's inevitable that his past will have a bearing on their future and when it all comes to a head, it's heartbreaking. But so good.
