Book Spotlight and Giveaway: FOUR WEDDINGS AND A BREAK UP by Elyssa Patrick

Guest Post

Thank you so much for having me on your blog during the FOUR WEDDINGS AND A BREAK UP blog tour! FOUR WEDDINGS AND A BREAK UP is about what happens when a fake relationship becomes all too real.

In FOUR WEDDINGS AND A BREAK UP, Wes and Ginny decide to fake date to keep their friends, family, and nosy townsfolk at bay. Both Wes and Ginny are fighting personal demons, and they think that a fake relationship will make things easier for them. Too soon, though, they realize how wrong they are.

My books are light, funny, sexy contemporary romances. I always love writing funny scenes in my book, and I thought to share with you today.

“I’m so glad you said yes. I invited a few people to join us.”

“Mom,” Ginny drew out. “I thought it was just family.”

“I consider them to be members of our family.” Her mom adjusted the hemline of Ginny’s shirt. “Oh, how I wish Julie wasn’t in the kitchen right now. Maybe I can get her real quick to put some color on your face. I don’t know why you don’t make yourselfup more. And for goodness’ sake, Ginger Belle Michaels, please take out that ponytail and wear your hair down. You’re such a pretty girl.”

“Mom.”

“I’ll stop before I get ahead of myself. But do try and smile.”

“What did you do?”

“Oh, nothing. I just invited a few people over. Like I told you.” Her mom led her to the living room. “Now promise me you won’t get mad.”

“I can’t promise that.”

“Ginny.”

“I promise,” she said halfheartedly, crossing her fingers behind her back.

Satisfied, her mom gave Ginny a gentle shove into the living room. Sitting on the couch were seven men, ranging from mid-twenties to late thirties. Handsome, average, nice . . . they all ran the gamut in looks and physique. The only thing they had in common was that all of them held a yellow rose.

“Where did you find them? Online?”

“No,” her mother said, a little guiltily. “Well, maybe one or two. The rest work at the bed and breakfast.”

“I think this is illegal,” she muttered. “Or child abuse.”

Her mother ignored her and turned her attention to the men. “Gentlemen, this is my oldest daughter. The one I was telling you about. Her name is Ginny. She’s thirty-three, and she teaches high school English. Very smart. Got a great sense of humor. Pretty. And very nice.”

“Why not just tell them I’m good for breeding, too?” she asked.

“Now as we discussed, you’ll each have five minutes with Ginny. She’ll cut the buds off your roses from four of you, leaving three left. Those three will join us for dinner. Although don’t worry for those who aren’t picked. I instructed Julie to pack you a take-home meal and dessert. I’ll bring Ginny to the kitchen where you’ll have your one-on-one with her.”

“I’m so sorry,” Ginny said to the men. All of them looked so uncomfortable. One of them muttered something in Spanish. She turned to her mother, her hands on her hips. “Mom. Do they even speak English?”

“The language of love knows no barriers.” Her mom eyed the men with relish. She pointed to a tall, lean man with wavy dark hair and equally dark eyes. “Raoul es mi favorito. Do I have that right, Raoul?” Her mom enunciated the last question slowly.

Ginny wished that the earth would open up and swallow her whole.

What’s a funny scene in a romance or movie that made you laugh?

Summary

One fake relationship . . .

Ginny Michaels has always been a good girl and—ever since surviving a school shooting a little over a year ago—hailed a hero. Except she doesn’t feel like a hero. She can’t even have a one-night stand with sexy Wes Dalton properly. When her big city fling resurfaces in her hometown with an intriguing proposition, she’s powerless to resist. A fake relationship is exactly what’s needed to keep her small town’s matchmakers at bay during the upcoming wedding season. If only her attraction to Wes were as easy to ignore.

Too many real kisses . . .

Wes Dalton doesn’t have many regrets, and that includes his night with Ginny. But he’s always hoped to strengthen his relationship with his estranged family. When his father’s health takes a bad turn, Wes puts his life on hold and moves to the meddling seaside town of Cape Hope. With his barriers in place—and a beautiful woman to help him hold them up—he’s prepared for anything. Or so he thinks. Despite his determination to leave as soon as the summer is over, those fake kisses are starting to feel an awful lot like the real thing.

Excerpt

The door creaked open. A young, dark-haired woman came out into the darkness. She held a tray with a beer on top of it. It wasn’t until she stepped into the dim light that he could make out her features.

She had the type of curves that separated the women from the girls.

Generous breasts that made his mouth water and lush hips he could hold onto. Shapely legs under a flared-out blue skirt and soft arms. An oval-shaped face with a pouty, pink mouth that begged for kissing, and deep brown eyes framed by sooty lashes. Glossy, rich brown hair tumbled over her shoulders, the ends dancing along the top of her breasts in a v-neck, white cotton t-shirt.

She was beautiful, sexy, and he was interested. Very interested.

Even though his whole body tightened in anticipation, he kept his stance and tone relaxed. “That for me?”

“The beer?” She glanced down at the tray and let out a nervous laugh that did something to his insides.

He found himself stepping closer, trying to understand this sudden need drumming in his veins. He’d never felt this pull before . . . there was something about her that made him want to know more. Like how she smelled, how she tasted, and how she would look naked in his arms. Well, he knew the answer to that last one.

She would look damn good naked in his arms.

“Yeah. It’s for—” Words died on her lips as she glanced up at him, her eyes widening as she realized he was inches away, their bodies facing each other as if they were about to dance. Not any of that slow waltzing thing but a dirty bump and grind where she’d rub herself against him. He’d been wrong. He thought her eyes were brown. Brown was too commonplace. Rich like melted dark chocolate. She gave brown-eyed girl a whole new meaning.

As their gazes held and lingered, those brown eyes darkened with desire. A faint blush stole her cheeks, and she licked her pouty lips. The air grew thick with want, the tension crackling. Then she ducked her head, her blush deepening.
