Elizabeth Reyes Read-A-Long and Gveaway: Rage

rage-day3

What happened in chapters 13 - 18?:

In this portion of Rage, AJ and Addison are dealing with some of AJ’s jealousy issues. He sees her talking to an ex-boyfriend of hers, and thinks they exchanged numbers again, but Addison is quick to reassure him that she was just bragging about her daughter - he’s happily married and she’s happily taken by AJ.
But then Clair tells AJ that she thinks she heard Addison talking to her dad, which brings all of AJ’s insecurities back to the forefront, especially with everything going on with his brother and his shady girlfriend, Kelli and the fact that they haven’t really told anyone they’re together. AJ starts to relax a little when they tell Kelli’s parents about them.
Something happened with Isaiah on a job that landed him in the hospital with a possible spinal injury, so AJ and Addison leave immediately to go be with his family. Isaiah is possibly thinking about quitting as a fireman to work in the family business - as hired protective services.
When AJ and Addison are with his family, Addison starts to notice something weird about Kelli and Isaiah, but she decides not to share it with AJ, because she knows his temper and feels like she doesn’t have enough information about it.
Favourite Quote:
“You know you’re terrifyingly adorable when you’re jealous.”
"That thing everyone calls rage, I always called passion. I love your passion. It’s undeniable in everything about you: your love for the game, your family . . . me."

Discussion Question:

  • What do you think is going on with Kelli? Do you think she’s being as shady as AJ seems to think?
  • If you were Addison, would you have told AJ what you've noticed about Kelli?

rageAbout RAGE

Having made it to the major leagues, AJ "Rage" Romero is determined to shake the stigma his temper has earned him over the years. He's finally managed a shaky hold of that elusive self-control. Until he meets them . . . Without warning, his coach and mentor's brilliantly gifted granddaughter Clair and her equally amazing mother Addison Lara blow into AJ's life. The harder he falls for Addison, the closer and more attached he becomes to Clair. Having fallen so fast and hard, he agrees to respect the understandably protective single mother's wish to forever keep the identity of Clair's absent father unknown to everyone--including AJ. But when the ugly truth about Clair's dad begins to surface, the fire in AJ's fiercely possessive heart is lit. As more of the troubling reality comes to light, his zero tolerance for secrets and dishonesty put his temper--and his love for Addison--to the ultimate test. Self-control has never felt so impossible. RAGE is a STANDALONE sexy romance with a alpha male hero that will make you tremble. It has an HEA and NO cliffhanger!! It is suitable for ages 17+

Elizabeth Reyes Read-A-Long and Giveaway: Suspicious Minds

breaking-day3

What happened in chapter 11 - chapter 15?:

Olivia confesses to Lorenzo her conversation with Margie, and tells him everything that happened with Jay, including the recent texts that’s she ignored. Olivia ends up blocking Jay on everything - her phone, e-mail, all of her social media.

Lorenzo is out golfing with Olivia’s brothers when they start talking about Olivia’s boss, Elton Hollingsworth. Olivia had briefly mentioned him to Lorenzo before, saying he was a silent partner and she just owed him money for the truck. But her brothers don’t like him and they confront Olivia about still having any sort of contact with him.

Knowing that they were talking about him to Lorenzo, Olivia decides to tell Lorenzo the whole truth about Elton and the offers he’s made her in the past, exchanging sex to remove some of her debt. Lorenzo explains to her that it’s sexual harassment and inappropriate, and Olivia agrees to ask Elton to stop coming by the truck and inviting to her lunch when he doesn’t ask any of the other girls he works with.

One day Elton shows up with a puppy - the kind of dog she’s always wanted to have. He tells her it’s a no strings attached puppy, and he paid for it several months ago and she should have it anyway.
Then Jay shows up. Margie is missing.

Not knowing anything about what happened that day with Elton and Jay, Lorenzo accepts a temporary deployment - he’ll only be gone for a couple of days.

Favourite Quotes:

“I’m not in the habit of going out with anyone more than once if I’m not serious.”
“I’m beginning to think you just might be perfect.”

Discussion Questions:

  • Do you think Olivia should have rejected the dog from Elton?

Updated to Include Review: Elizabeth Reyes Read-A-Long : Breaking Brandon

breaking-day2

What happened in chapters 12 - chapter 17?:

Regina and Brandon progress a little bit in their physical relationship after their day of bonding and can’t get over how much they enjoy making out with each other. He opens up to her a bit about his past, about Sofie, but doesn’t tell her much.
She invites him over for a sleepover the next day, and when he gets there, she receives a mysterious package from someone named Chris in New York. He’s curious about it, but she won’t tell him what it is and who it’s from - it’s a book from her therapist, so sort of a happy therapy anniversary present.
After a heated discussion about whether or not men and women can be friends, Brandon tells her that they have to be all or nothing. They can’t be just friends. He explains that he never makes attachments like this, but it’s different with her.
Although it’s moving a little fast, Regina ends up moving in with him temporarily. His apartment is one story and she still can’t get around, so it makes the most sense. One day while she’s snooping through his belonging she stumbles across some riding crops and paddles in his closet. She doesn’t say anything to him, but she’s curious.
They have a fight when Regina’s therapist calls her - Brandon assumes Chris is a guy, and wants to know who she’s talking to. Regina shuts him down - they’ve only been together for a week and she’s not ready to share everything with him yet.
She opens up to him more after she gets into a fight with her friend Janecia at dinner. She shares her past with him, about her fear of motorcycles, the reason she takes anxiety medicine and the death of her husband and her miscarriage, and the fact that she bought a gun.

Favourite Quotes:

  • Then he smiled again, and God, she could used to that smile.
  • “Are you asking me to be your girl, Sergeant Billings?”
  • “What’s past is prologue.”
Discussion Questions:
  • Do you think men and women can be friends?

BreakingBrandonAbout BREAKING BRANDON

He ruled out attachments years ago. Then one day he crosses paths with a beautiful but pampered daddy's little princess. History has taught him one thing about women like her—steer clear. She was starting over. She moved back to her home town, took a new job assignment, and left her past behind. For the first time in over eighteen months, she's even intrigued by a man—a sexy but cold and indifferent drill sergeant. Despite feeling drawn to him, she has no time to figure out his inexplicable aversion to her. Then Fate steps in one night, forcing them together. There's a connection neither can refute, and they both consider giving into the undeniable attraction. Fate however can also be cruel. Just when they surrender to their heart's desires, past demons resurface in the most unexpected way, threatening the happiness neither realized they so desperately needed. New Adult Contemporary - *Mature Content* Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations and language.

My Thoughts:

One thing about these books, the author relies on coincidence and everyone knows everyone (or is somehow related to them) in these stories. That aside, she makes it work and the stories end up being quite entertaining. Such is the case with Breaking Brandon. I loved Brandon's character. He was so stoic and by-the-book and he renewed my love  for men in uniform. I loved every scene he was in and really wanted to see him get his happy ending. Regina, though, she annoyed me sometimes and I thought some of her reactions were a bit over-the-top (destroying her apartment, for instance), but somehow they were good when they got together. All in all, this was a good addition to the Fate series and I'm glad I read it.
