RELEASE BLITZ and Review: Crave by Adriana Locke

RELEASE BLITZ
Title: Crave
Series: The Gibson Boys #3
Author: Adriana Locke
Genre: Contemporary Romance

BLURB

Hadley Jacobs is over Machlan Gibson.

Sure, she’ll always be a little weak to the dimple in his right cheek and the way his five o’clock shadow makes him ruggedly handsome. But that’s not enough to cover every other thing about him because they all drive her nuts. Like how he’s won’t admit he’s wrong even when he knows it and how he drives his stupid car a million miles an hour on wet asphalt. As she rolls back into town and takes a seat at Crave, she won’t take the bait. She’s over him. Mostly.

Machlan isn’t over her.

It’s not because he hasn’t tried. He reminds himself over and over that she’s not the girl for him. After all, she drives him insane with her sassy attitude and the way she calls him out on everything. She beats him at poker, even though she doesn’t know the difference between a straight and a flush, and when she looks at him with her bright, blue eyes, it’s unnerving. When she climbs onto that bar stool and orders a drink, he puts it in front of her and ignores the sparkle in her eyes.  He’s not over her, but she won’t know that.

But she does know that. And he knows she’s not as over him as she’s pretending to be. When life forces their hand this time, there’s more on the line than a pile of poker chips. It’s their forever.

Crave is a standalone romance in a new small town, blue-collar series from USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke. Join readers everywhere as they fall in love with the delicious Gibson Boys.

My Thoughts:

I have been waiting for Machlan's story ever since he was introduced in the first Gibson Boys book and the wait was worth it. Even though I loved the other Gibson boys and their stories, there was always something about Machlan that called to me and this book proves why. There is just something so special about this guy, that indefinable "it" that makes him such an interesting character - and makes you want to know more about him. Such was the case with me. Every time he popped up in someone else's story, I was always captivated by him and would always wish for his story to be next. I just knew it was going to be a good story and I wasn't disappointed. The one thing about such a great character, though, is that he needs a love interest who is his equal and I am happy to say that Hadley fits that description just fine. She's no push-over or shrinking flower - she makes him deserve her, once she realizes she deserves him, too. Their love story was at times sweet and sad and there were times when I just want to shout "Get it together, you two, you belong together!" but the end result was worth it, so I forgive them for their stubbornness.

Release Blitz and Giveaway ($25 Amazon gift card): Crave by BJ Harvey

Title: Crave
Author: BJ Harvey
Genre: Erotic Suspense
Release Date: October 20, 2015

Blurb

I have a craving.

A dark urge I’ve failed to resist despite years of trying to do that very thing.

I’ve forced myself to hide behind a mask, a perfect orchestration to hide my true self.

After I met her, my wants and needs, my inner most desires changed.

She encouraged me to embrace who I truly am, and she was willing to do anything and everything I wanted, giving herself to satisfy my most carnal appetite.

Then everything in my carefully managed world came crashing down around me. A moment in time, a loss of control, and the very thing I cherish was nearly taken from me.

My fate now lies in her hands.

The very life I’ve built for myself…everything I’ve ever done now waits in purgatory, all caused by a lack of focus at a time when my most concentrated attention was needed.

The very thing I crave may now be the end of me.

Excerpt

“What was that thought?” she asks curiously.

I lift my eyes from her hand resting on the black leather seat between us to her face to see a sly smile has appeared on her lips. “What thought?”

“The one that just had dirty written all over it.” Her smile grows wide, her eyes glittering with heat and a touch of amusement at the position she’s cornered me into.

“It’s a thought that would be more suited to the end of the date, if we are following your predetermined description of a how a first date should be, that is.”

Heat overtakes amusement as the air inside the car crackles with the right type of tension, the exact type of mood I have been hoping for and dreading. Our eyes remained locked, like neither one of us is able or willing to look away from the other.

Knowing I’d need to acquiesce, I look back down to where her hand rests beside her leg and bite the bullet, reaching over and lacing my fingers with hers.

“See?” she says as I catch her smile out of the corner of my eye. “Wasn’t that hard, was it?”

“It’s like that, is it?” I say, my voice filled with humor. She leans over, turning her body toward mine and rests her mouth against my jaw, just below my ear.

“If you want something from me, Callum, you just need to ask for it or take it. I highly doubt any of the thoughts running through that very handsome, highly intelligent head of yours could put me off.” Her breath warms my skin, sending the nerve endings into overdrive. “You’re welcome to try though . . .”

Before I can attempt to put my public mask in place, I tilt my head until we are cheek to cheek. Presented with an opportunity, I follow my instincts and graze my teeth slowly against her ear lobe. “I was thinking how your hand would feel touching me again . . .”

Her breath stutters momentarily, before quickening. She pulls back, leaning her shoulder into the seat but not returning to her side. “I’m sure we can arrange to hold hands again, Callum. It’s all part of getting to know each other.”

I mimic her pose, our bodies still close but not touching, as I let out an uncharacteristic chuckle. “You’re trouble with a capital T.”

“And I’m thinking, Mr. Alexander, there’s something about my brand of trouble that you’re drawn to.”

Excerpt

My deepest fear is that my attempt at normalcy with Lucia will put both of us at risk. There is something about her that makes me want to get to know her, be close with her, something beyond the physical connection we have, the intensity of which still has me unsettled and uncertain.

I can’t seem to stay away; I don’t think I want to anymore.

There’s something about her that has me conflicted in the worst possible way. The fantasy of being inside her again, of making her scream in pleasure by my hands always seems to morph into darker thoughts—more sordid depraved contemplations that I have no place in imagining.

Stepping out of the shower, I wrap a towel around my waist and walk to my closet. I’ve come to the realization that although I want her close, I have to tread lightly.

It’s the best way for the both of us.

When Jason comes to town, Casey questions everything she wished for. Their consuming love threatens to explode and ruin her dream. Will she have to choose between a family and the love of her life?

----

My Thoughts:

I'm kind of on the fence about this one. First, it felt a little disjointed to me, like the beginning of the story didn't quite connect with the rest; it was just a little strange to me about how it proceeded from there to the bulk of the story. I don't know quite what it was that set the tone for me, but it was there just the same and made reading this a challenge. One of the biggest challenges was that I didn't really like the main female character, Casey, that much. She just seemed kind of wishy-washy in the love department; for instance, right after she catches her boyfriend cheating on her with his ex, she sleeps with her ex - then still moves across the country after hooking him once again and within months, she's got a new boyfriend. And despite the fact that there were all kinds of warning signs about the new guy, she still tried to fit him into this specific box she wanted him in, despite still being in love with her ex, who follows her out to Colorado. Once the ex, Jason, follows her out to Colorado, things get really complicated, especially considering that he's been seeing someone new at home. Needless to say, the relationships in this book are tangled and messed up and you almost need a score card to keep track of them.On the plus side, I really liked Jason. I thought he was sweet and kind and Casey really didn't deserve him, but he was also loyal to her, too. There were some unexpected moments in this book, but for the most part, not a whole lot to raise it above others in its genre. But it was a nice read.

Not Sure I CRAVE More of This Story

Description:
Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail.
For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences….

This sounds like a great premise, doesn't it? That's what I thought, too, when I first read it. Paranormal elements in a star-crossed romance, a war between vamps and witches - it all sounded so good, I just had to read this story. But now that I have, I have mixed feelings about it.
For one thing, I never really connected with the characters. For some reason, Savannah just turned me off. She had kind of a poor-me attitude toward the other students who suddenly stopped being her friend and ostrascized her. I know this was probably a traumatic thing for her, but there was just something about the way she moped about it that didn't sit right with me. And her relationship with her father was kind of strange; it was a series of I-hate-you-for-ruining-my-life-and-dashing-my-dreams and okay-I'll-blindly-do-whatever-you-say. I really feel like Savannah didn't have enough backbone.
Then there's Tristan. At first, he seems okay with the idea of treating Savannah like an outcast and then, inexplicably, he's got a major crush on her. The change was just too quick. One moment, he's the perfect son and friend, and the next, he's willing to risk the wrath of everyone in the Clann for her.
Still, I tried to suspend disbelief for the purpose of the story and continued to read it, curious as to how the situation would be resolved. I have to say I was dissatisfied with the ending. It felt kind of abrupt, like it was finished too soon so it could provide a cliffhanger for the next book. Now I know how difficult it is to write a book and to tie together all of the elements to create a full-bodied story. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. For me, this just didn't. Sure, there's going to be another book (or two, I'm not sure) that will no doubt delve deeper into the worlds of the vamps and witches, but the truth is, I'm not sure I care enough about what happens to the characters to read it.
My conclusion: Though this is not the book for me, I'm sure readers who are hardcore fans of the vampire genre will enjoy it.
