USA Today Bestselling author Claudia Burgoa presents a heartwarming, sexy romance about second chances and starting over.
After a week off the grid, I finally get reception and the first voicemail I hear stuns me.
“You’re summoned to Baker’s Creek by the late William Tower Alderidge.”
Twelve Years.
It’s been twelve years since the last time I heard from the Alderidge family.
That one voicemail changes everything—I need the money the late William offers.
In exchange, I have to live eighteen months in Baker’s Creek.
I’ve survived cancer, the jungle, and the plague.
This should be easy compared to all that, right?
Or so I think until...I see him.
Confident, charismatic, bitter, sexy as hell, Doctor Hayes Benjamin Aldrige.
My first love, my first kiss—my late husband’s brother.
He hates me.
He still hasn’t forgiven me for walking out on him, and I can’t blame him. It’s been over ten years, and I still have feelings for him.
But I faked it once and I can fake it twice.
I can survive eighteen months and that’ll be the last time I see the Alderidge brothers.
Isn’t it?
The Baker’s Creek Billionaire Brothers series is a romantic comedy saga packed with the perfect mix of angst, tears, and laughs. If you like strong heroines & alpha males, steamy romances and witty love stories, this series is for you!
My Thoughts:
No one does angsty characters like Claudia Burgoa and Loved You Once is no exception. In this case, there is twelve years of angst to be dealt with before the couple can find their HEA, so it's one hell of a ride to happiness! It's a story of young love turned first heartbreak, sprinkle in a little betrayal and a whole hell of a lot of family drama and you have a very rocky road to romance. But it's got it's fair share of that, too, don't you worry. What I love about the author's characters is that they're always complex. What you see on the surface doesn't even begin to skim what's going on underneath. For example, Hayes seems to have it together, is a very successful doctor, seems to have the world at his feet, and yet, he's miserable. Because he doesn't have the love he callously left behind those twelve years ago to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. Not only was he young and not so smart, emotionally, at the time, but he was terrified of becoming his philandering father so he put an end to his happiness before it could destroy him. The woman he left behind, Blaire, went from broken-hearted to hard-hearted - toward Hayes, at least - but she made something of herself despite the heartaches she endured and now she's making a difference in the lives of kids in need around the world. Fate doesn't exactly bring them back together; no, it's the stipulations in his father's will that does the job and it's a roller coaster of mixed emotions when they meet again. Blaire doesn't make it easy on Hayes, so when he decides he wants her back, he has to work to prove he's worthy of a second chance with her, and they both have to work through some major issues to get there. Complicating matters is his brothers, who make meeting the terms of the will difficult to say the least. This was such a good book and I can't wait to read about the next brother!
