Rainer Torrence is everything I could have wanted in my life and more.
He became my best friend when I was Thirteen years old.
From then on, we were inseparable. He was my first love and my first heartbreak.
But I always thought it was forever.
Until his Father died and things went bad.
Then suddenly, he disappeared.
Ten years and I didn’t see or hear from him.
Then came the call I’d be praying for– he was back in town.
Only the man I remembered is not him.
This man is quiet, deadly, and so incredibly beautiful.
He also doesn’t remember me.
He looks into my eyes, and he sees nothing.
Nothing.
So, I let him believe I’m just a girl that walked into his bar.
I let him believe I’m just a friend.
I let him use me on the cold, dark nights.
I let him believe that I am as emotionless about our relationship as he is.
I just let the secret go on and on.
But all secrets have an end, don’t they?

My Thoughts:
Oh, my word, this book! Once again, the author grabbed me by the throat from the first page and wouldn't release me until the last - until I read everything there was to read about this amazing couple. And once again, she provided a hero to the heroine who was so tortured by his past, I really feared he'd never come around and open himself up to the idea of loving again. The things that happened to Rainer when he was young - oh, wow, they were bad. I thought Max had it bad in Flawed Heart, but Rainer gave him a run for his money in that department. So many times, I just wanted to reach into my ereader and give the man a hug - thankfully, Mali was there to do it for me!
One thing about this author: she may present such tortured heroes, but she always provides the best women to heal them and Mali was certainly up to the task. And it was no easy task because not only did she have to help Rainer battle the demons of his past, she had to contend with the fact that he was in love with another woman - a woman she considered her friend. So, although they were getting together in the physical sense, they weren't connecting in the emotional sense and if that wasn't bad enough, she had to watch him pine for another, a woman he always put ahead of her - even when he things got more personal with Mali. It was so heartbreaking and I really felt her pain. But Mali is a strong woman and doesn't give up that easily, so she puts up a good fight for him.
All in all, this was a pretty amazing story and I absolutely loved it. I hope the author writes more about the characters in this series. I know I'll be reading them if she does!
