Blog Tour: #Starstruck by Sariah Wilson

  #Starstruck by Sariah Wilson

“You’ve done better.” With one uncharacteristically sassy tweet to her longtime celebrity crush, Zoe Miller’s life turns upside down. Ultrahot A-lister Chase Covington doesn’t just respond to Zoe’s tweet, he does the unthinkable: he messages Zoe directly. Now she must decide between walking away or meeting her crush in person. Chase knows better than to trust anyone from the Internet, but Zoe’s saucy challenge has totally caught his interest—and her girl-next-door personality is keeping it. He’s been burned enough to know he needs to keep his heart close. But his feelings for Zoe might be a lot more than just an online flirtation. He just has to convince her… When the press gets wind of Zoe and Chase’s secret relationship, their romance turns into tabloid headlines. Will they be able to hold on to their Hollywood love story?

  EXCERPT

A few beats passed before he said, “I make you nervous, don’t I?”

Uh, understatement of the year. But his movie star ego didn’t need to hear it. “I’m…I’m not nervous.”

He started moving fractionally closer to me, one small movement with each loud, slow thud of my heart. “I don’t normally make girls nervous. Excited, yes. Overwhelmed. Shocked. Up for anything, usually. But not nervous.” This time he did touch me, his fingers tucking back some stray hairs behind my ears. I closed my eyes and dragged in a sharp breath. All those sensations…I totally got the overwhelmed reaction. And the excited and shocked thing.

And possibly even the up for anything impulse.

I opened my eyes and tried to deny it, but now Chase stood directly in front of me, his heat warming me, pulling me in. He put his hands against the counter, on either side of me.

He’d trapped me.

“I think I know why I make you nervous.”

“I told you, I’m not nervous.”

A playful smile lit up his entire face. “Like I said, you’re a terrible liar.” He focused his gaze on my lips. His head ducked down toward mine. We were almost touching. So close, but not enough. I put my right hand on his chest, but whether it was to stop him or pull him closer, I didn’t know.

It was like a scene out of my favorite movie, complete with my favorite movie star.

His lips hovered above mine, his slow, steady breaths a huge contrast to my short, shallow ones as they washed over my face. “Zoe.” Chase whispered my name, and it sounded both like a question and a promise. It made my knees buckle, my stomach tighten and my pulse explode.

Book Blast and Giveaway: Chasing Fireflies by Taylor Dean

  Chasing Fireflies

  Chasing Fireflies by Taylor Dean

My sisters think I’m crazy. But, I’ve never forgotten the mysterious woman from my childhood who told me Paul is the name of my one true love. She told me to search far and wide for him. I haven’t stopped looking ever since. When I stumble across an article about a successful American entrepreneur named Paul who lives and works in China, I’m intrigued. When the opportunity to teach English in China presents itself on the same day, I know it’s not a coincidence. It’s destiny.

My sisters say I’m chasing a dream. Just like the fireflies we tried to catch on the warm summer evenings of our youth, the dream seems beyond my grasp. Will my quest for the elusive Paul always be just short of fulfillment? My sisters tell me it’s a fool’s errand. Until I remind them of the day we saw the Red Bird. The memory silences them. The Red Bird Incident remains inarguable—and proves my search for Paul is not a silly fantasy. I will find Paul . . . I will.

  Excerpt

My sisters stare at me with wide eyes, perhaps shocked at my show of assertiveness. “Besides,” I continue, slowly looking them each in the eyes, “you know why I have to go. I know he’s there and I have to find him.”

“Please tell me you are not going on about that Paul business again. Searching for him is ridiculous.”

Sadie folds her arms across her chest as if sulking. “It’s a fool’s errand.”

Saige avoids my eyes. “That’s crazy talk, Savannah. You won’t find him.”

“Is it? Every single thing has come true and you know it. If I don’t find him, I will lose everything.”

“Don’t overdramatize the situation. It’s just a coincidence,” Samantha spouts heatedly. “There’s no proof.”

“Really? What about the Red Bird?” I ask. That silences them. Simultaneously, their eyes lower and they hunch down in their seats. They have nothing to say about the Red Bird. The Red Bird Incident remains to this day, inarguable. Admittedly, it still leaves me speechless too. I’ve often tried to explain it away as coincidence, to convince myself it couldn’t possibly be true. It’s no use. The Red Bird defies all reason and common sense. As their silence continues, I say, “It’s not crazy. It’s my future. Miss Pearl was right, you know she was. She told me I would receive tragic news and I did. She told me to watch out for the Red Bird and I did. She told me to search far and wide for Paul . . . and I need to do it.”

TEASER:

“So this is what a Pearl-approved guy looks like.” She shook her head once and cracked a smile.

“She’s got good taste, I’ll give her that. You’re an odd mix of sexy and adorable. Don’t see that often.”

I was a little taken aback by the compliment, if that’s even what it was. She may have just been stating what she considered to be fact. She laughed at my surprise and held out her hand to me. “Nice to meet you. I’m Jordan Kramer.”

I’d been afraid of that. “You’re a girl.”

Jordan laughed. “That’s what it says on my birth certificate, but I’m really glad you were able to figure it out without needing to read it.”

Nope. I definitely didn’t need that.

 TEASER:

I handed Jordan the electric guitar that I’ve had since I was twelve, and laughed when her eyes got really big. “You play the electric guitar, too?”

“Music major,” I teased, picking up my keyboard. “I play this, too. A little. And the bass guitar.”

“Awesome.” She examined the electric guitar with awe.

“Why do you seem so surprised?”

She looked at me as if the answer to that question should be obvious. “Hello. Have you met yourself? You with an acoustic guitar singing soft songs around a campfire or in a coffee house makes perfect sense. But I can’t picture you up on a stage, jamming on your electric guitar like a rock star.” She studied me a moment, then shook her head. “You’ll have to play for me, or I’m not going to believe it.”

My Thoughts:

First, I have to say this book had one of the most unique premises I've come across in a while and that, in itself, was refreshing. An interesting gimmick was the use of movie titles for chapter titles and the themes of that chapter but, like most gimmicks, it started to get annoying not even halfway through. Don't get me wrong, I liked the concept, but sometimes I felt like it was a little too forced to tie it all in. Another problem I had was with the characters. I didn't connect with any of them at all. I don't know why, but they just didn't interest me that much so I eventually just abandoned this book. I tried - several times - to go back and read it and give them their due, but I just couldn't go on. First, Nate was boring and that's not a trait you want to have in your narrator/main character. As I read, I kept thinking to myself, why am I reading this story? What's it purpose? Thoughts I shouldn't be having when I'm reading a book. So, while others may really like this book, it just didn't work for me.

The music and movies behind the story (Kelly's If We Were a Movie playlist)!

As I’ve said many times before, I’m one of those authors who needs peace and quiet to write. I’m a music junkie at heart, and if there is music playing, I will sing (and most likely dance) along. Fun times, but as you can imagine, not the most productive writing environment. So while I’m working, I turn the music off. But I still always have a playlist for each book. It’s usually a group of songs that remind me of a scene, or a certain character, or just have the tone that I’m going for. And while I’m working on the book, I will wear the playlist out. (Just not during writing hours.)   If We Were a Movie, despite its title, is almost more about music than it is about movies. My main character, Nate, is a talented musician on scholarship at NYU. Music is an intrical part of the plot, and hits home for me personally as I was a music major in college too. (For a while anyway…) The playlist I have for this book is closer to an actual movie soundtrack than just a random list of songs this time. (Very fitting.) Most of these songs are referenced in the book as well as that they simply remind me of the story. As you read, feel free to listen along.   The book also has a movie playlist and you can watch along as well. As much as Nate is a music junkie like me, his love interest, Jordan, is a movie fanatic. (Like my Hollywood screenwriter/editor/motion graphics artist husband!) The book is all about comparing life to the movies, and is a play on all the classic romantic comedy tropes that we all love so much. There are dozens of movie references throughout the book. In fact, each chapter is titled after a different movie that has something to do with that chapter. I guarantee after the first couple of chapters you will be trying to guess what’s going to happen next based on the chapter headings! I’m not going to give you that list of movies right now, because it may spoil some of the surprises, but I promise it’s a fun list.   So, are you ready to listen to If We Were a Movie? Here it is in my personal playlist order: (Warning, this is my most eclectic playlist yet!)
  1. Fortune Days (The Glitch Mob)
  2. Take a Chance On Me (ABBA)
  3. Tears In Heaven (Eric Clapton)
  4. Jolene (Dolly Parton)
  5. Tompkin’s Square Park (Mumford & Sons)
  6. Lego House (Ed Sheeran)
  7. Hands All Over (Maroon 5)
  8. How To Save a Life (The Fray)
  9. Inconsolable (Backstreet Boys)
  10. Cherry Pie (Warrant)
  11. Under Pressure (Queen & Davie Bowie)
  12. Zidler’s Rap (Various artists from the Moulin Rouge! Soundtrack)
  13. Spontaneous Me (Lindsey Sterling)
  14. Superman (Five for Fighting)
  15. Clarity (Zedd ft. Foxes)
  16. You Belong With Me (Taylor Swift)
  17. Marry Me (Train)
