Pretending to be in a relationship with your arch nemesis is one thing. It’s another to do so while stuck on a family vacation.

Royce thought I was stuck up.
And I thought he was full of himself.

Two weeks in paradise with both of our parents…what could go wrong?

EXCERPT:

“Can you stop acting like a spoiled brat for two seconds?"

Her brows arched high, eyes wide in shock. “Spoiled brat?”

Of course, that was all she heard. Out of everything I said, she managed to latch on to that one bit. I didn’t know why I bothered to try—it was impossible to win against Her Majesty, the self-righteous queen. However, I couldn’t let it go. “Yes. A spoiled brat. A big baby who spends her time crying because someone came along and ate half her cookie. Guess what, princess? You still have half a cookie. Try focusing on that for a change.”

She stalked toward me, steam practically coming out of her ears. Her lips were pursed and eyes narrowed. In all honesty, had I been sober, I probably would’ve been scared for my life. But thanks to the generous servings of bubbly, I pulled myself to my feet, keeping most of my weight on my good foot, and squared my shoulders at her.

“You have some nerve,” she practically growled.

I leaned down enough to get right in her face. “What are you going to do about it?”

Her response wasn’t at all what I expected. Rather than yell or insult me through gritted teeth, she grabbed the front of my shirt, pulled me closer, and pressed her lips to mine in a hard, violent kiss. It was so startling that I didn’t know what to do with my hands, fully anticipating her to push me away after a second or two, once she realized what she’d done. Yet she never did. Instead, she parted her lips and slipped her tongue into my mouth.

That’s when I decided it was game on.

I palmed her ass cheeks and rolled her hips into mine while tasting her tongue. All the fury, all the frustration that had been building over the years went into that kiss. Every argument. Every flippant response. Every insult, and every time she’d made me feel less than—it all went into it.

She felt it, too.

Her body molded to mine, making the warmth of her skin seep through the fabric barriers between us. It was then that I decided to just go for it and see where it went. I grabbed the hem of her simple dress and pulled it over her head, freeing her perfect, bare breasts.

Jesus…” It was barely a whisper, yet loud enough to be heard.

And taken the wrong way.

Hennessey pulled back in alarm, arms instinctively covering her chest. “What? What’s wrong?”

I’d seen her in so many different lights over the years, yet I’d never seen her like this—almost insecure. It made her real. And for the first time since meeting her, I started to believe she might truly be human after all.

With a cautious hold on her wrists, I carefully pulled her arms away. Then I met her worried stare and shook my head, my smile burning my cheeks. “Nothing. Not a damn thing.”

About the Authors:

Kristie Leigh

I'm a feisty redheaded Canadian/American who fell in love with romance novels when
my friend Phil bought me a Kindle that hasn't left my side since.

My favorite books to read are anything taboo and super sick and twisted. I'm not sure I will ever
write anything dark, but I would love to give it a shot one day.

I live in South Florida with my high school sweetheart and three kids.

I grew up in Burlington, ON, Canada but made the move to
South Florida in 2013 and definitely don't miss the snow.

I'm not sure where this writing journey will take me but either way, I know it will be a fun new adventure, and I'm super excited about it.

Leddy Harper

At the age of fourteen, Leddy Harper wrote her first book and never stopped. She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters. She published her first book to teach her children to go after what they want, love what they do and do it well, and to show them what it means to overcome their fears.

Blurb

Just five months ago, Valentine O'Dell started working at a very special kind of nightclub – one where you can dance the night away, or live out your greatest fantasy. She's learned to lose herself to her nights, forgetting all her day time woes as she charms every man she meets. It's easy enough to do when she doesn't let her feelings get involved.

Then Ari Sharapova walks in and changes everything.

Working for his father's law firm has left Ari with very little control over his life, so when he sees Valentine for the first time, he sees a girl who is desperate for someone to take care of her. To take over her. So what he can't get for himself in the day time, he'll simply take for himself at night. But when power struggles lead to real feelings, who's actually controlling whom?

Some relationships are better left in the dark.

Excerpt

When Valentine got to the ladies room, she all but fell through the door. A bathroom attendant jumped out of her chair, asking if she was alright.
“I'm fine,” she groaned. “Just bumped into a blonde nightmare.”
“Oh,” the attendant laughed. “One of those, huh?”
“Rich people are the worst,” Val growled, moving to lean against a sink. “You know? They just think they can talk to you however they want. Screw them.”
“I couldn't agree more.”
She was ready to go off on another tangent, but then the door burst open once again. Ari strode into the room, startling both of them.
“Sir, this is the -” the attendant started.
Leave,” he ordered her, though his eyes never left Valentine's.
The attendant looked unsure for a moment. Val rolled her eyes, but she eventually nodded her head, signaling that it was okay. The attendant nodded back, then demurely left the room.
“A little dramatic,” Val said once the door had shut.
“What the fuck do you think you're doing?” he demanded.
She belatedly realized he was angry. Ari was very, very angry. She glanced around the room.
“Well, I was gonna pee – I thought this was the best place to do it,” she tried to joke. His glare grew even more severe and he loomed over her.
“What are you doing here? At this restaurant? With that piece of shit out there?” he clarified. Her jaw dropped.
“Uh, excuse me, I think you'll find that your ex is the only piece of shit here,” she informed him. “You should've told her not to come where she isn't wanted.”
“Don't you ever tell me what to do. Now explain yourself.”
Explain myself?” Valentine laughed loudly and stepped away from the sink, not wanting him to have the power position of leaning over her. “Excuse me, but I'm not your girlfriend. I don't have to explain anything to you.”
“No, you're my property, and as such there are rules you must abide by,” he growled. “Rules we both agreed upon.”
So much of what he'd just said was messed up, but she decided to save most of it for later and tackle what exactly it was that had him so pissed off right now.
“That's why you're upset?” she asked. “Because of the guy I'm having dinner with? Because of Ralph?
“I'm upset because you're breaking the rules. I paid a lot of money for you – I won't tolerate insubordination.”
“You paid a lot of money for my time,” Val corrected him. “So screw you, Ari, I'm not breaking shit.”
“I told you in the beginning,” he started. “No other 'clients' – no picking anyone else up at your club. And I don't believe for one second you met Ralph out there on Tinder, or at the laundromat, or at school, or wherever, so he must be a client. What the fuck.
Oh my god, he's jealous. Jeez, you fuck a guy a couple times and suddenly he thinks he owns you.
Yet still, somewhere deep down in her chest, her heart began to beat faster.
“Yes, he's a client,” Val snapped. “But I didn't break any rules. I agreed to a dinner date with him before I met you, it's been set up for weeks now, I'm just fulfilling a deal. My world doesn't revolve around you, Ari.”
“It had better fucking start to.”
“Are you kidding?” she asked. “You're mad? How do you think I feel, seeing you here with friends and not being able to acknowledge you, and then having your evil ex talk to me like that, like she's still with you?”
“Deal with it – you knew what you were signing up for.”
Val was pretty sure steam was about to shoot out of her ears.
“I signed up to give you exclusive rights to my time,” she growled. “Not to be verbally abused by your bitchy ex-girlfriend, and not to be treated like some contractually obligated whore.”
“If the contract fits.”
Valentine slapped him before she could stop herself, shocking both of them.
“Don't you ever talk to me like that again!” she hissed. Ari stared down at her, his blue eyes ablaze with anger, that errant lock of hair falling across his forehead once again.
“I'll talk to you however I want. Don't ever fucking hit me again.”
She let out a frustrated shriek, then she slapped him again before pounding her hands against his chest. He struggled to grab hold of her arms, shoving her across the room and slamming her up against the wall by the door. He pinned her wrists near her head, then they glared at each other, both their chests heaving, both their hearts raging.
He's the worst.
She was suddenly kissing him. Or he was kissing her. It was impossible to tell – they were no longer two separate entities. He let go of her wrists and she immediately started clawing at the front of his blazer, trying to pull it apart. His left hand went around her throat, gently squeezing, while his right hand went to her exposed thigh, rubbing the outside of it.
“This dress,” Ari gasped against her. “Jesus, when I saw it …”
“When I put it on tonight, I thought of you,” Valentine spoke quickly, finally undoing the button and pushing her hands inside his jacket.
I want to fucking rip it off of you.
“God, yes, I want that, too,” she groaned, dragging her nails down his back, wishing her hands were against his skin.
Then his tongue was back between her lips, just as aggressive as always. He didn't just take a taste when he kissed – Ari made a whole meal of her mouth, and she loved being devoured.

Author Bio

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

“Hey, Mia Hamm,’’ a deep rumbling voice called from above me.
I turned in the direction of the voice. The handsome man I saw yesterday playing football with his son was calling to me from the second-floor balcony.
“Who?”
“Mia Hamm. The famous soccer player.”
“I know who Mia Hamm is. I’m not her, and you’re in Barbados where we call it football.”
“Well, I don’t know your name. Why don’t you tell me what it is so I know what to call you and then you can tell me where you learned to play football like that.”
“I think you’ll find that most people who grew up in the Caribbean can pass a football with some skill. I’m not special.”
“I don’t know if I agree with that.” He grinned, and I felt myself flush. “And you still haven’t told me your name.”
“Where are your wife and son?” I asked, deciding to nip this little game in the bud.
His brow furrowed in confusion before realization hit.
“What? No. She is not my wife and Philip is not my son.”
Something that felt suspiciously like hope caused my heart to flutter at his words, but he was probably lying.
“That little boy looked exactly like you.”
“Hey, I’m not saying he’s not a good looking kid.” His grin returned, and so did my flush. “He’s just not my kid.”
“Well, his mother seemed interested. Why don’t talk to her about soccer?”
“I’m not interested in his mother.” He gave me a pointed look, his grin still firmly in place.
My stupid heart fluttered again.
“I’m already taken,” he said.
The fluttering stopped.
“But the problem is, she won’t tell me her name.” He tucked his bottom lip between his teeth, still grinning.
And the fluttering returned. A deep breath helped me calm myself and regain focus before I pressed the elevator button again, knowing that it would do nothing to make the elevator come faster.
I glared at him and rolled my eyes. He was leaning over his balcony waiting for an answer.
“No,” I said finally.
“No, what?” he asked.
“Whatever you want. Whatever you think this is. The answer is no.”
“It can be whatever you want it to be.” That line would’ve been incredibly sleazy from anyone else, but he made it sound so sincere and almost convincing that it was clear I needed to keep my distance from him, no matter how charming he was and no matter how long it had been since I felt a man’s hands on my body.
“Good,” I said. Mercifully, the elevator arrived at that moment, and I stepped inside. “Nothing it is.”

“I won, you realize that, right?”
“Yes, cocky one, I do. What’s your point?” she retorts, clearly not realizing where I’m going with this.
“I won, therefore you arrived last…”
Realization flashes across her features and she looks up at me, where I’m still perched atop Thor, with her hand providing shade over her eyes and her lips slightly parted. “You can’t be serious. Right now?”
“Mhmm, right now.” I nod my head and fold my hands over the horn of Thor’s saddle. “I need to see you gloriously naked and getting into the water.”
“You really are serious.” She shakes her head and starts to pull her hair back. “You can tell me you’re joking anytime.”
“Allie, I’m serious as a heart attack. You agreed, last one here is the first to skinny-dip. And I want to watch every second of you doing exactly that.”
“My God, you are so full of yourself. I suppose you’re going to stay there on top of Thor, like you’re the ruler of the lands?”
My only answer is to smile at her.
“Impossible. You’re impossible.” She pulls the band off her wrist and secures her hair into a messy pile above her head then she works her boots off with a huff. “How am I supposed to dry off?”
“I brought two blankets, we can share one so you can use the other to dry yourself.”
“And what are you going to—you know what—never mind.” She steps up in front of Thor and slides her hand over his face. “You’re a traitor, Thor. You should’ve lost for me.”
She makes me laugh loudly. “He knows whose horse he is. Now, quit stalling”

Author Bio

I was born and raised about twenty minutes north of Denver, Colorado where school and soccer were always my primary focus growing up. Though, I read and wrote as often as humanly possible, too. I’ve always loved doing both, and my love for words has only grown since my childhood.

I stayed local for college and majored in Biology, with every intention of going to medical school. That never panned out. I realized right before I took the MCAT that what I wanted most out of life was to have a family of my own one day, and to be able to write a book. It was then that I decided that being a doctor wouldn't have left much time to accomplish either of those things.

Since then, I've done child care, and tried to figure out where to go next, while also finally working on my own stories that I can share with the world.

And I hope that the amazing people that give me a chance fall as in love with my characters as I have.

WHISK ME AWAY

He’s over me, the scent of man and citrus and red pine shifting and reminding me who I’m with. This isn’t just a random college student I’m trying to conjure an interest in. It’s K-Pop, my dream, the one who’s been untouchable for several years. My neighbor. I’ve seen him every day. I’ve tried to avoid him, because the sensation of not having him has been so big.

“Baby.” Reverent, I use the tips of my fingers to rake through his hair, letting them get stuck in the white-blond spikes that are softer than they look. He responds to my touch, meeting my mouth with his own. In small puffs of passion, he exhales warm air over my skin.

“Can I?” he whispers, unwrapping the buttonless front of my dress.

“You don’t have to ask.”

The way he breathes when he’s aroused sends my heart flying. K-Pop is usually such a loud, colorful person. Now, he’s quiet, and the stutters of his exhale heats my abdomen. I didn’t experience him this way the last time, all those years ago. I never saw his personality change.

Silently, he caresses my cleavage, runs his hand down until the pieces of fabric fall away. I bow toward him, wanting the fabric off, and he listens, steadying it against the sheets until I can slink out of it.

“God,” he whispers, gaze warm has he takes me in. With a hand under my neck, he lifts my mouth to his. He licks my lips while he searches downward, over my stomach, until it reaches my thighs. I spread them, moaning. I want more, fast, but he doesn’t touch me where I long for him.

“Your thighs are softer than rabbit fur,” he whispers, and it’s hot and funny, making a sting of lust go off in my stomach.

I reach up and undo the buttons of his shirt. He shoulders out of it without missing a beat. With his eyes open, he takes me in as I marvel over the sinewy torso hovering over me, his masculinity wanting me and only me.

“You have tattoos,” I breathe, staring at his happy-trail. The number seven is prominent within intricate curls and swirls, one of them resembling a dragon.

He looks down at himself and smiles. “And regular hair.”

I bite down on my own smile. “That was a mean prank, but there’s something to be said for pubic feathers.”

“I’d do it again for you.” He falls on top of me and sucks his way down the nape of my neck. I try to hide that I’m gasping for air—I don’t want him to slow down.

Sure fingers find my folds as he rocks against me. It’s automatic when I spread open for him, allowing him to feel the slickness inviting him in. He groans in response, causing me to grow hotter by the second. When his thumb massages my love nub and two fingers find their way inside me at the same time, I let out a sob of pleasure.

“Ninni… nae salang.” Suddenly, he’s all action, tossing off the remainder of his clothes. Breathless, I watch him tug my panties off. They fly across the room. Like the shadow of a bird, they land out of reach, and it’s as it should be.

He falls over me, nudge me wide for him. I feel him jutting against my cleft. On instinct, I sigh and encircle his hips with my legs. Pulling him tight, I close my eyes, getting ready for heaven. Then, I freeze.

“K-Pop. Did you bring condoms?”

He stops mid-move, breath faltering. “Shit.”
