 My Thoughts:

Where do I begin with this book? I mean, it's kind of hard to describe all the goodness that is this book without giving any of it away and since I'm not the type who likes to give spoilers... well, you get the idea. But let's just say this - there is so much goodness in this book and if you like books about rockstars and angsty heroes - added bonus, this hero is a sports star - this one is for you. It is the newest installment in the author's Turner Artist series and it is just as good as its predecessors. So, if you've read the others in the series, you won't be disappointed, but if you haven't, why not? This author really knows how to write a rocker, but more than that, she really gets you into the music itself, especially in this one - I felt like I was right there with Genevieve creating lyrical masterpieces. But I was also right there with Oliver, feeling his pain as he recovered from a debilitating injury that puts his career as an elite goalie on the line. And their love story? It's a delicious slow burn that is so worth the angst you have to suffer as it unfolds. Such a good book - can't wait for the next one!

My Thoughts:

I have always had a special place in my heart for Trey ever since I first encountered him in the Back-Up series. Maybe I'm just drawn to dark and twisty bad boy rockers, but there was always something about Trey that drew me in. I am so happy he got his own book and what a tortured, roller coaster of a journey it is. He's had so much tragedy and heartache in his life but it doesn't stop him from being deliciously snarky and telling corny knock-knock jokes to get a rise out of Leila and oddly, that kind of leaves a little door open to let in the little girl who ends up stealing his heart - and her mother. Trey is a complicated man who's convinced himself that he doesn't deserve happiness and that if he gets it, he'll somehow mess it up. So he needs a woman like the empathetic, grounded yet fiery Camilla to prove him wrong - and boy, does she! Even when she doesn't believe she's equal to the task, she somehow manages to get through to him and in the process, lets him into her slightly battered heart. Separately, these two souls struggle to get by, emotionally, but together, they are each other's safe haven. It just takes them a little while to realize and come to terms with that. But once they do - magic. I devoured this book.

Release & Review Blitz: LOVING MISS SASSY by A.M. Madden & Joanne Schwehm

🔥🔥 HOT NEW RELEASE 🔥🔥
Loving Miss Sassy by A.M. Madden & Joanne Schwehm is LIVE!! #OneClick today!

BOOK BLURB

I am sure of four things:

I’m the most sought-after social influencer.
I’m prepared to kick ass and take names.
I’m going to conquer the Big Apple.
I wasn’t prepared to have an unexpected roommate who happens to be drop-dead gorgeous.

Being the younger sister of two overprotective brothers taught me to be tenacious. Granted, that didn’t fare well when I mistook my roomie for an intruder. Fine, maybe a right hook wasn’t the most ladylike greeting, but his black eye only lasted a week. How was I supposed to know said intruder was also my advertising adversary?

The answer: I didn’t.

And having a single wall separating our bedrooms only adds more angst to my list. I’m sure I’ll never get a good night’s rest wondering if he sleeps commando . . . if those are moans I hear or snores . . . if he imagines me in his bed as I imagine him in mine.

The list goes on and on.

The most shocking thing I wasn’t prepared for was how he managed to capture my heart . . . right before he shattered it.

He called me Miss Sassy, and I proved him right.

My Thoughts:

Usually, when it comes to this writing duo, it is a no-brainer for me - I have to read their books. And I usually really love them. Unfortunately for me, this one didn't quite live up to the others for some reason. I thin a lot of that has to do with Miss Sassy herself, Gianna. To me, she came off as a bratty know-it-all much of the time and I just didn't see what Colton saw in her a good deal of the time. Especially irritating was her thinking she was so much better at his job than he was due to her social influencing when he had the awards and accolades to back him up. Another pet peeve was that some of the dialogue felt a little trite and stilted, almost cliched responses you might hear in adult movies. All that aside, though, it was the story that really got me and that's what I read books for - to be drawn into the story. I like enemies-to-lovers stories and this was definitely that and I absolutely loved Colton, so that's why I stayed with it and in the long run, those two pet peeves (Gianna and the dialogue) were relegated to minor irritations in an otherwise good story. That might just be me nit-picking, but I have to share what I liked and disliked about a book and as far as the dislike is concerned, it wasn't a lot, so that makes this a good read for me. I really do love how her friends and family rallied around Gianna when she was in crisis and it was good reading more about some old friends from previous books in this world. I just wish there was more Colton - what can I say, I'm a sucker for guys like him; he's just the perfect book boyfriend and isn't that really why we read books like this? I know it's why I do!

REVIEW BLITZ: LESSONS FROM A ONE NIGHT STAND by Piper Rayne

If you find yourself having banged your new boss—the principal—in the back of your Jeep one drunken night, here’s a few takeaways based on my experience...

Lesson One: Always get her FULL name.
Lesson Two: Consider asking what she does for a living.
Lesson Three:  Find out why she’s moved to town. Get details. Details are crucial.
Lesson Four: Don’t alter her bio in front of an auditorium of high school students unless you know she has a sense of humor for that sort of thing.
Lesson Five: If you ignore Lesson Four, apologize instead of flirt when you’re sent to the principal’s office.
Lesson Six: NEVER sleep with her again.
Lesson Seven: Pay attention to this one—it’s the most important of them all.
Don’t fall for your one-night stand.

Class dismissed.

“We need you to introduce Principal Radcliffe.” She peers behind me then pushes up on her tiptoes to whisper in my ear, “Malcolm, I mean Vice Principal Ealey, called in this morning. I think he was still…” Fay doesn’t have to finish the sentence.
Malcolm Ealey went through a public divorce last year and has been spending a lot of his time at the Lucky Tavern, drowning in a helluva lot more than his sorrows. That’s why, even though he should have become our temporary principal, the school board decided to hire someone new. “Why me?” She hands me a piece of paper.
“The kids look up to you, and everyone thinks that the kids will welcome Principal Radcliffe if you introduce her.”
Her. Another woman. Hopefully this one is well-caffeinated and not pregnant. We’ll all stand a better chance that way. I accept the piece of paper, looking over what I need to say.
“Fine.” I’m not scared of public speaking. I’ve got two teenage girls at home. You don’t know a hostile environment until you’re trying to break up a fight between those two.
“You’re the best, Austin.” Fay squeezes my forearm then walks down the hall.
My footsteps slow as I read over the new principal’s bio. What the hell is a Yale graduate doing in Alaska at Lake Starlight High School? After skimming over her education, I fold up the paper. I can wing it from there. Besides the kids couldn’t care less about what’s printed on that sheet. Heading into the auditorium, I search out the face of our new principal, but I know everyone here.
“Her meeting with the superintendent is running a tad late, so if you could stall, I’ll tap you on the shoulder when it’s safe to announce her,” Fay informs me.
 “I’m not a zoo keeper.”
Fay laughs. I will not miss this part of my job next year. Before I realize it, I’m in front of the podium, clearing my throat and introducing myself, as if everyone here doesn’t already know who I am. Sedona rolls her eyes and looks away. I have no fucking clue why she’s so embarrassed of me. I mean, look at me. Six foot two, two-ten, short, neat haircut. I work out four times a week, hike, bike, ski. My muscles aren’t from just the gym… Okay, before I keep sounding like a male-seeking-female want ad, let’s get on with how my day went into the shitter in a matter of twenty minutes. I tell a few jokes, and the kids loosen up a bit. Maybe I should rethink the whole college baseball coach thing and go for stand-up comedy. I’m pretty good at this. Fay taps my shoulder, and thank God, because I’m running out of material. I pull the paper out of my back pocket and clear my throat one more time.
“All right, everyone. We all know that Principal Miller has left us to enjoy her new baby, so we’re welcoming a new principal into our school. Our new principal for the remainder of the year is Dr. Radcliffe. She graduated from Yale with her doctorate in education. She comes here from the lower forty-eight, so make sure you give a big Alaskan welcome!” About half the kids in the auditorium clap while the rest of them stare at the stage with an expression that only a bunch of unimpressed and uninterested teenagers can manage. Time to grab their interest and get them to buy in. “Principal Radcliffe’s hobbies include streaking during football games, ferret racing, and taking surveys for money.” The kids roar with laughter, finally looking as if they’re interested and want to be here. Fay steps up and nudges me. “Sorry,” I mumble. “We’ll bring Dr. Radcliffe out to explain her hobbies in more depth.”
I turn from the podium at the sound of heels clicking across the stage. This is the part where my mouth drops open and my testicles jerk up, seeking protection. See the auburn-haired woman walking right toward me? The one who looks as pissed off as Sedona did when I honked my horn in the parking lot this morning? Yeah, that’s my new boss. The new principal of Lake Starlight High School. I don’t believe in kissing and telling, but I’ll tell you—this is the first and only principal I’ve ever given an orgasm to in the backseat of my Jeep.

My Thoughts:

If you like a quirky romance with a fair share of angst and populated with a bunch of quirky characters, then you will love this story. Once again, Piper Rayne hits one out of the park with a love story that will make you laugh at some parts, make you cry at others, make you swoon in between, and just make you believe in the power of love. Where there is love, anything is possible and Austin and Holly learn that the hard way. Both come from difficult circumstances that, while different, shape the people they become and give them a greater understanding for the other's fears and longings. Those circumstances also lead them to believe they can have something casual with each other before moving on to bigger and better things - thousands of miles apart. But the heart is a funny thing; once engaged, it totally changes the landscape of previous dreams and goals and paints a new picture with love. And the journey is something to behold!

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two USA Today Bestselling authors for the price of one. Our goal is to bring you romance stories that have "Heartwarming Humor With a Side of Sizzle" (okay...you caught us, that's our tagline). A little about us... We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We're both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We're both chauffeurs to our kids. Review Blitz: JILTED by Sawyer Bennett

Hollywood hath no fury like a woman scorned. In this fun, flirty second-chance romance from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett, an aspiring starlet reconnects with her first love. “Sawyer Bennett never fails to deliver heroes I fall hard for and heroines I adore.”—Violet Duke

Eden Goodnight went to Los Angeles to make it big, not to be publicly humiliated by her cheating fiancé at a red-carpet premiere. But when Eden returns to her hometown to put the scandal behind her, she can barely find a sympathetic shoulder to cry on. Turns out the locals are worse than the paparazzi, and they all think she’s turned into a spoiled brat. But in a strange twist of fate, the one person who seems to understand what Eden’s going through is Cooper Mayfield . . . the boy she left behind. Small-town charm is no match for the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. At least that’s what Coop’s been telling himself all these years. As Eden’s old flame—and the landscaper for her family’s historic home—Coop feels some responsibility for getting her out of her funk. But as soon as he sees that million-dollar smile, he’s a goner. Soon they’re making out like teenagers again. But when a life-changing role falls into Eden’s lap, Coop just hopes she doesn’t give up on a love that’s meant to be.

My Thoughts:

Another winner for Sawyer Bennett! I wasn't sure how much I was going to like this one because I'm kind of iffy about stories about actors, but it was Sawyer Bennett, so I had to give it a shot. And, like every book by this author I've ever read, I wasn't disappointed. Filled with interesting characters, fun and sexy times, this book had it all. Coop - what can I say about him? Every girl's dream guy, that's what. I just loved him so much! And Eden was a worthy recipient of his charms and attention. Together, they were just a really solid couple and I loved watching their second chance at romance story unfold. Like every other Sawyer Bennett book, this is a must-read.

Since the release of her debut contemporary romance novel, Off Sides, in January 2013, Sawyer Bennett has released more than 30 books and has been featured on both the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists on multiple occasions.
A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina, Sawyer uses real life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. From new adult to erotic contemporary romance, Sawyer writes something for just about everyone.
Sawyer likes her Bloody Marys strong, her martinis dirty, and her heroes a combination of the two. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active toddler, as well as full-time servant to two adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or a combination of the two.

Review Blitz: Blackmail Boyfriend by Chris Cannon

Synopsis

Sometimes, blackmail is the only weapon a girl has…

Haley Patterson has had a crush on golden boy Bryce Colton for ages. But when she hears a rumor that he hooked up with her she gives him a choice: be her boyfriend for a month to show other guys that she’s dateable—despite her overprotective and very intimidating brothers—or deal with the angry, cage-fighting boyfriend of the girl he actually did hook up with.

Bryce didn’t know the other Haley even had a boyfriend. He was just trying to get his ex off his back. And now, not only is he being blackmailed, he's being blackmailed by an honor student. His new “girlfriend” has two three-legged dogs, her father mows grass at the country club, and she's…well, difficult. And different.

Can something so fake turn into something real?

My Thoughts:

This was, all  in all, a sweet romance. But it was rather predictable, so it wasn't a great read, just a fair one. The main characters were all interesting in their own right, even though Bryce seemed a little fickle for no reason, but some of the secondary ones were like cardboard cutouts. Such as the ex-girlfriend who had a hard time accepting the breakup; she was so bad, she was almost campy - it was a fine edge with her. I did like the best friends, though, so they made up for her stereotypical character.

As for the story itself, like I said, it was sweet, but that's about it. There was very little tension, very little actually happened in the story, and it's already fading in my mind. I'm glad I read it, but I doubt I will remember it a month from now. It doesn't stand out from others like it. I could tell from the beginning how it was going to turn out and there were no surprises along the way. I could've predicted just about everything that happened in it or was going to happen.

So the verdict is: it was a sweet book, just not very memorable.

Series: Taint #1
Author: Carmen Jenner

Blurb

Cooper Ryan is living the dream. Between the parties with rock royalty, booze, groupies and performing to crowds of thousands with his band Taint, life seems pretty sweet. There’s just one thing missing: the feisty little red-head that took his baby and ran off with his heart. Throwing himself into music is the only thing keeping him sane.

Until a run-in with a nonplussed, package-wielding PA throws everything off balance.

Ali Jones is having a craptastic life. Her grandmother died, leaving her homeless, penniless, and alone, and her boyfriend left her for a tramp who takes her clothes off for money. That’s why when she lands her dream job at a record company it seems like it’s too good to be true.

Because it is.

Excerpt

My vision is partly obstructed by Ali, but the sight of her head bobbing as she takes him in her mouth is all I need to know what’s going on. Levi meets my gaze across the limo. There’s gloating there—that much is obvious—but there’s also understanding. When you spend as much time together as we do, you come to know your bandmates pretty well. For all his talk, he’s not as big of a douche as he claims to be. He may not ever sleep with the same woman more than once—with the exception of Ali, I guess—but I know he’s not immune to the loneliness our lifestyle creates. It’s strange how you can be adored by millions and yet completely alone all at the same time.

He slides his hand into her hair and closes his eyes, throwing his head back against the seat.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck,” he whispers, and then he gathers her hair to the side and shifts her body so that my view is completely unobstructed. I watch as she works her hands up his shaft in time with her mouth. He doesn’t attempt to fuck the back of her throat and make her choke on it, the way we both had that first night we fucked her. Instead, his touch is gentle. Reverent.

It makes me crazy, and hot as fucking hell. I shift uncomfortably, adjusting my cock within my jeans. I don’t make a move towards them, though I want to. I want to bury myself inside her and mark her as mine, but at this point the lines are so fucking blurred it doesn’t matter whom she belongs to. Him. Me. The both of us, or neither one.

I lean forward, taking a glass from the shelf and a crystal decanter filled with amber liquor, and I pour myself a drink, and then I slide back into the leather to watch.

“Play with yourself, Red,” he whispers.

“No.”

“Do it,” I say, and she turns around to glare at me. I can’t tell if she’s disappointed I’m not joining in, or if she forgot I was even here.

“I don’t want—”

“Why are you suddenly so embarrassed?” I say sharply, swigging back more of the scotch than I should.

“I’m not embarrassed. I’d actually rather that you joined in.”
“I’m watching,” I say, eyeing her coolly over my glass. She scowls at me a moment and then she kneels up, steadying herself with one hand on Levi’s thigh. She wriggles her skirt up over her hips and bends over. Everything is on display as she takes him in her mouth again. I close my eyes, not wanting to watch her on her knees in front of him, her head bent low, her full fuck-me lips wrapped around Levi’s cock. I feel as if I’m on a ride that’s spinning out of control and I can’t find a way off. I can’t make it stop. And I so badly want it to stop.

My Thoughts:

I was really enjoying this book until something happened part-way in and became an integral part of the story that just ruined it for me. I won't give it away here, but it spoiled the whole story for me and really made me dislike the characters, especially Ali, because it kind of tainted her character (in my opinion). I didn't enjoy the book after this and I'm still wondering why I bothered finishing it, but I did. This is such a shame because, up until this point, I was really enjoying the story and thought it was good. In fact, I even liked the way it ended. It was just this incident (that continued on through a good portion of it) that I had any real issue with. As I said, it spoiled the book for me.
