Book Excerpt

Excerpt #2 from Team Niklas

Alice looked up at Niklas, squinting her eyes. “I just heard you were in hospital last night. I thought you were sleeping over at Sasha’s… are you okay?”
“I’m fine, it was nothing.” He smiled at her and then turned to me. “Hello Sah-sha, sorry about last night. I promise to do better next time.”
I grimaced, knowing the remaining office staff in the line would all think we were on.
“It wasn’t a date, so no big deal,” I said, with a shrug. “But yeah, most guys don’t bleed for me.”
“I like to go that extra mile,” he said. His tongue licked his lower lip and it was all I could do to not knock him to the ground and suck it. Alice nudged me back to reality, as the queue moved up closer to the prize coffee machine.
“Nik, if I were you, I’d get right away from me… we’re about to enter the boiling milk zone.”
He shuddered, held up his hands and stepped back.
“I’ve got to catch up with Doc, but I’m telling you Sah-sha, we’re not jinxed,” he said. “Friday?”
“Mm,” I said. “Maybe.”
“Come on, really?” He extended his hands in front of him. Then he must have remembered where we were and that we weren’t alone.
“We’ll talk,” he said with a departing look. It sounded more like an order than a request.
I saluted and clicked my heels together.
Nik glanced back. “I saw that.”
Brenda, the CEO’s personal assistant who was ahead of me in the queue, had turned to watch Nik enter the building. She touched my arm. “Wild beasts would have to keep me from a date with Niklas, oh my he’s something,” she said.
“We haven’t had wild beasts attack yet, but don’t tempt fate, Brenda,” I warned her and she laughed.

Excerpt Reveal: The Seduction of Esther by Jennifer Wilck

Title: The Seduction of Esther

Author: Jennifer Wilck

Release date:

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description:
Samara Goldberg has a problem even the most beautiful singing voice can’t fix. She’s a walking disaster, especially when she’s around handsome men. To make matters worse, she’s in desperate need of someone to play the character of Mordecai for the Purim spiel she’s producing and the new congregant, Nathaniel Abramson, is a perfect fit. Nathaniel is a divorced dad who’s recovering from the biggest public scandal of his life. The last thing he needs is a relationship with the choir director at his new synagogue, who also happens to be playing the lead female role of Esther in the very play he’s been coerced into joining.
Woven around the Jewish holiday of Purim, The Seduction of Esther is a story of two people whose lives mirror the plot of the Purim story. Like Esther, who had to hide her Jewish identity from the King of Persia, Samara and Nathaniel are hiding key pieces of themselves. Evil Haman wanted to destroy the Jews, and the nasty Josh will do anything to keep Samara and Nathaniel apart. Will their love survive, like the Jewish people in Shushan, Persia, or will their fear keep them apart?

Book Excerpt

Nathaniel tucked Zoe into bed for the night, scrunched the daisy print quilt under her chin and behind her shoulders, smoothed her bright red hair off her forehead and planted a kiss on the tip of her nose.
“Good night, Stinky.” He reached for the green and white gingham bedside lamp and hid a smile as he anticipated her reaction. Ever since he’d read her I Love You, Stinky Face as a toddler, Stinky had been his pet name for her. She was reluctant to let him use the nickname, even in private.
“Daaaad.” The drawn-out word and the roll of the green eyes, while expected, gave him a glimpse of what she’d be like as a teenager, and he shuddered.
“I love you, Zo.”
“I love you too, Daddy. And I am not stinky.”
He chuckled as he doused the light, picked a discarded purple sweater off the floor, patted the head of her battered elephant and left the room, leaving the door open a crack. He cleaned up the dinner dishes, grabbed a Sam Adams from the fridge, the latest Dan Brown book from his shelf and sighed in relief as he sank into his recliner.
Endless meetings and conference calls, in addition to the normal demands of a seven year old, made him feel like an old man. With his book open on his lap, he took a swallow of beer and savored the flavor as he put his head back and closed his eyes.
Like an old-fashioned film reel, images of black, curly hair, angry brown eyes, luscious curves and potatoes danced behind his eyelids. He opened them and looked around. He half expected to see ugly spuds rolling around the floor under his feet. But all he saw was blue Berber carpet. He leaned back in his chair and opened his book. Instead of words, he saw the flush creep up her neck when the produce guy yelled at her, the surprise in her gaze as she slipped on the potato, the curve of her ankle in the black high heel as she rushed away.

About the Author:

When I was a little girl and couldn’t fall asleep, my mother would tell me to make up a story. Pretty soon, my head was filled with these stories and the characters that populated them. Each character had a specific personality, a list of likes and dislikes, and sometimes, even a specific accent or dialect. Even as an adult, I think about the characters and stories at night before I fall asleep, or in the car on my way to or from one of my daughters’ numerous activities (hey, anything that will drown out their music is a good thing).
One day, I started writing them down (it was either that or checking into the local mental hospital—the computer was way less scary) and five years later, I’ve gotten two book contracts from Whiskey Creek Press. A Heart of Little Faith came out in June; Skin Deep is coming out in November.
In the real world, I’m the mother of two amazing daughters and wife of one of the smartest men I know. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, traveling and watching TV. In between chauffeuring my daughters to after-school activities that require an Excel spreadsheet to be kept straight, I serve on our Temple Board, train the dog we adopted from a local shelter, and cook dinners that fit the needs of four very different appetites. I also write freelance articles for magazines, newspapers, and edit newsletters.
When all of that gets overwhelming, I retreat to my computer, where I write stories that let me escape from reality. In my made-up world, the heroines are always smart, sassy and independent. The heroes are handsome and strong with just a touch of vulnerability. If I don’t like a character, I can delete him or her; if something doesn’t work, I can rewrite it. It’s very satisfying to be in control of at least one part of my life. My inspiration comes from watching the people around me and fantasizing about how I’d do things differently.

Book Excerpt

"Gavin slides his hands down my back in a massaging motion as I sit on his lap. We’re at Lucas’ apartment having dinner. Kel and I are enthralled in a game of cards while the boys talk about the football game they are watching. Gavin is pulling for the Colts while Lucas is an adamant Patriots’ fan.
“Aria. Earth to Aria Georgiana…” Kel is snapping her fingers in a waving motion in front of me and I must have spaced out because she’s trying to get my attention.
“What?” I tilt my face up to see her grinning.
“You’re daydreaming again! It’s your turn” She gives me a wink and I feel Gavin stiffen behind me at the idea that I’m daydreaming. About his hands skating along my skin. My back, my thighs, my shoulders. Oh, how I want them south. To where I’m aching for him so much.
And who are you daydreaming about, baby?” I turn my face into the hollow just above Gavin’s ear.
“You. I want you, now.” My voice sounds close to a growl of desire as I whisper in his ear. Immediately he’s hard and I giggle in anticipation.
“I’m sorry, Luke but I think I’ve been neglecting my sweet girl, here. We’ll see you at the church”
Gavin stands with me against his chest and nods toward Lucas and Kel who are both smiling. They know exactly why we’re leaving and with that realization, my cheeks heat.
“Have fun” My sister practically sings and I can’t help but laugh as she hugs me and whispers in my ear.
“It’s good to see you so happy, Ari. See you soon”
Gavin takes my hand and tugs me out into the cool Chicago night air and immediately pushes me against the hood of his car. He dips his head and begins to run kisses down my throat and neck.
“Oh, please take me home Gavin” I beg and pull his head back with my hands so I can see the depths of his brilliant blue gray eyes.
“Home” He drawls, skating fingers down my face to grasp my chin. Those eyes of his fill with tenderness and it melts me into a puddle before him. I nod and smile shyly.
“Take me home”
It feels like it takes hours to get back to the penthouse and then also for the short ride up the elevator. Gavin keeps his arm around my waist the entire way and as soon as I close the front door behind us I crash my body into his and kiss him. Deep. Hard. Hungry. I feel wetness flood my core and feel the press against my lower stomach of Gavin’s desire for me as well.
“Beautiful” He groans against my mouth, grasps the hem of my skirt and pushes the silky fabric off my hips and legs. The next to go is his t-shirt, the buckle of his loose fitting jeans and finally my blouse. It takes a matter of seconds for my bra and pink laced panties to join our clothes on the hardwood floor.
When I’m standing naked before him, Gavin’s eyes take me in as if he’s never seen my body before. He doesn’t move to touch me, he just looks at me with hungry eyes.
“You are so sweet, Aria. I love that you’re mine” Gavin pierces me with the intensity in his eyes and his words reverberate through my skin like sunlight.
I clutch onto his shoulders as he carries me into our bedroom and straight to the bed.
“Need you” I tangle my fingers through his hair and feel in my soul that Gavin is the only one I’ll ever need.
As if he knows the depth of my need for him, he brings his mouth down to mine and whispers against my lips.
“I’m yours, Aria. But we only have an hour" Despite his reminder, I push my body into his. I moan cathartically when I feel his hardness against the very core of me. I can’t think through the haze of pleasure that I find myself in. All I can do is feel."

Book Excerpt and Giveaway: Changed by Alicia Renee Kline

Title: Changed

Author: Alicia Renee Kline

Release date: April 7th, 2015

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description:
It was only supposed to be a one night thing…
Will Delaney and Gracie Alexander are little more than acquaintances when fate lands them in same place at the same time. One drunken hookup later, they decide that the best course of action for all involved is to pretend it never happened.
Will’s recently divorced. Gracie’s perennially single.
Upon first glance, they have absolutely nothing in common.
They both agree on one thing: they’re not looking for a relationship.
The only problem is that they can’t seem to stay away from each other.
Can two people who have sworn off love forever find it in the most unexpected setting?

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25304260-changed
Book Excerpt
I awoke in my new favorite position:  wrapped in Will’s arms.  I snuggled into his embrace, relishing the feel of his bare skin against mine.  His grip around me tightened, a reflex even in slumber.  I was certain he was still asleep - his deep, even breathing was just this side of a full on snore.
Sunlight flooded through the window in my bedroom.  Even though the temperature outside was well below freezing, you’d have thought it was summer in my apartment.  Somehow the tension and the uncertainty of the previous night - of the past week, really - had vanished, leaving behind the warmth of an emerging plan.
The new job could work.  Fort Wayne could work.  Will and I could continue being uncommitted to one another.  He wasn’t opposed to me invading his hometown, moving into his backyard so to speak.  And as long as I was willing to accept that we’d never be able to be seen in public with each other again, things were golden.  At least I could have this.  Though always with the understanding that the second I wanted more and was able to find it, Will was history.
He never had to know I didn’t intend to take him up on the bail out clause.  Ever.  The realization should have scared me beyond belief, but I was as calm as if I’d just admitted the sky was blue or the Earth wasn’t flat.  The fact of the matter was it just was.
Embracing singlehood for the rest of my life wouldn’t be so bad if I could wake up like this each morning.
