About ONCE UPON A POWER PLAY

He'll do whatever it takes to get her against the boards…

Sidelined by a potentially career-ending injury, the only thing hockey player Ryan Douglas should be thinking about is recovery. But after sharing a near death experience and a night of passion with a spunky brunette, the only thing on his mind is five and a half feet of sexy sarcasm. And he'll do whatever it takes to get her back in his bed--even if it means playing dirty.

Chloe Jacobs is done with fairytales. And men. She's kissed her share of frogs and what's it gotten her? Dumped by text--again. Determined to eighty-six illusions of romance and prove she's more than just a good-time girl, the last thing she needs is a pushy, arrogant hockey player testing her resolve. Especially one who's sinfully good with his hands and thinks date-by-blackmail is a perfectly acceptable social convention.

Ryan wants to play games? Fine by her, but this is one faceoff he's going to lose.

Topic 2: Where did Jennifer get the idea for the book, and why hockey?

A Little Thing Called Inspiration by Jennifer Bonds

As a writer I’m often asked where the ideas for my books come from. It’s a natural question. And one that should be easy to answer, right? But sometimes the path to the finish line isn’t as direct as you’d imagine. Or as intentional.

A long time ago in a town far, far away… Okay. It wasn’t that long ago or that far away, but you get the idea. My freshman year of college (before I discovered beer) my roommate and I were bored to tears one Friday night so we decided to drive out to the ice rink and check out the university’s ice hockey team. I’d never watched a game, let alone attended one, but by the time the final buzzer sounded, I was hooked.

The speed, the physicality, those sexy players. Yum. Seriously, there was nothing I didn’t like about hockey, even if I didn’t know what the hell off-side meant. Even though I’ve always enjoyed hockey, it wasn’t until I married a Pittsburgh Penguins fan that I started following the sport regularly. And it just so happens hockey has the world’s longest season, so I spent a lot of time last year listening to the Pens while writing and doing edits.

So, yeah, that’s when Ryan Douglas was born. The perfect hero for my spunky, wild child heroine Chloe Jacobs. Strong. Funny. A closet sci-fi geek who, like me, adores Star Wars, but in a much more manly way. I loved the idea of a hockey player who really was more small town than big city and who was clawing his way back from a serious injury. Throw in a devastating heartbreak and it was a story I couldn’t wait to write.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for an underdog, which is probably why I love this couple so hard. Of all the stories I’ve told, Chloe and Ryan’s is my favorite. It’s snarky and funny and hot. Everything I love in an enemies-to-lovers romance, plus hockey. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Once Upon a Power Play is my new favorite sports romance. What’s yours?
