Author: Bella Jewel
 Release Date: June 22, 2015

Blurb

This isn’t the man I married.
The man I married was strong, beautiful and pure.
The man I married cherished our lives together.
The man I married loved me.

This…this isn’t that man.

One night. One accident. It changes everything.

I wish I could tell you the exact moment he fell out of love with me.
I wish I could tell you there was hope. That I hung on. That I fought.
I wish I could tell you that we fixed it.
That happily ever after was just out of our grips.

It wasn’t. I ran. In the dead of the night, I packed my things and I left him.

Now I’m back. He’s still the same man. A deadly underground fighter for the House Of Obsidian. He’s still dangerous. He’s still broken. I still love him.

This is the part where I’m supposed to turn back around and run… But I don’t.

My Thoughts:

This author has a really bad habit of putting her characters through the wringer before she gives them the HEA they so thoroughly deserve and this couple is no exception. Oh, my word, the things she makes them suffer first! I actually almost hated her for awhile there (just kidding, Bella!). But seriously, what a truly amazing, heart-wrenching book! If you're not up for a bittersweet, knife-to-the-heart, but ultimately happy-ending book, then don't read this one because it will put you through the wringer before it delivers the goods. Of course I recommend that you read it anyway because it's just that good.

Starting with the characters - wow, did I love them! Max was just this amazing, flawed, beautiful person who was suffering so much - and doing most of it in silence. My heart broke for him again and again, especially since interspersed throughout the book are glimpses of what he was like in happier times, which just made his suffering in the present all the more sharper. It really dug right in and twisted that knife. Then there's Belle, who just loved him with her whole heart  her whole being - and was just powerless to help him because he wouldn't let her in. But when she's given the chance to do so - boy, does she! Through it all, she never stopped loving him and that love ultimately gets them through everything and out the other side. And let me tell you, if ever there was a couple who deserved the happy ending, it's these two!

About the story - well, I'm not going to tell you about that in detail because I don't want to spoil it for you. You're just going to have to read it for yourself to see what happens! I know, I'm evil, but it's worth it, trust me. Let's just say that they meet and fall in love in college, go on to build a life together that is eventually shaken off-course by a tragic event. This leads to a downward spiral for Max and a separation for the couple. But then, more tragic circumstances bring them back together, but it's not a happy reunion. Oh, no, it's quite the opposite. Let's just say this couple really has to work to come to a happy place again because both of them have been keeping secrets and those secrets have the potential to destroy them and wipe out any chance of a future together.

So in conclusion, I just have to say this: Read the book. You'll be happy you did.
