Hopeless by Colleen Hoover: Review

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies.

In this #1 New York Times bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover, author of Slammed and Point of Retreat, Sky meets Dean Holder, a guy with a reputation that rivals her own. Holder has the ability to invoke feelings in Sky she's never had before. In just one encounter he leaves her terrified yet captivated and something about him brings up a rush of memories from the past that she’s worked so hard to bury away.

Sky knows Holder is nothing but trouble and tries to keep him at a distance, but he is adamant about learning everything he can about her. Sky finally caves to his unwavering pursuit, but she soon finds out that Holder isn't the person he's been claiming to be. When the secrets he's been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky's life changes forever.

My Thoughts:

How do I even begin to describe this book? I've been trying to figure it out for a couple of days now and I'm still kind of stumped - that's the impact this book will have on you. You will just sit there and ask yourself, what did I just read? You will do this because it's a little hard to describe. It's not your average teen story of girl meets boy, boy rebuffs girl, somehow boy and girl manage to get together. No, it's so much more than that. It may start out like that, but then it twists and turns in a direction that will leave you breathless and wondering, what the heck just happened? But it does it in such an organic way, you get swept along and really become a part of everything you're reading. You believe this story - believe it really could happen. And the explanation of what the title really refers to is another stunner - I was left in awe over it.

I can't really describe what happens within the story without revealing spoilers and I don't want to do that, so all I will do is say this is a must read. And if I had to describe it in one word it would be: amazing.

I look forward to reading other books by this author.

  1. I love when books just kind of sweep the reader away like that... when you become so involved with the story that, in a subtle sort of way, you are almost a part of it. It definitely can make it tricky to review, but you did a great job!

  2. I love when books make you just unable to do anything after finishing. I've read a few recently and that feeling is just amazing, but I agree it makes it hard to review. I'm going to have to check this on out, it's getting some great feedback.
